Human for human, machine for machine

IoT (or Internet of Things) is the driving force for business transformation, and with the advent of the high-speed mobile Internet connection, that is, the 4G standard, the spread of such a “network of things” has grown rapidly. According to Gartner, in 2017 there were 8.4 billion devices connected to IoT in the world, and by 2020 there will be about 20.4 billion. And although 4G technology is still new in Ukraine, however, operators claim that due to the growth in speed and expansion of coverage, business will receive new opportunities. One of the current trend niches IoT - Machine-to-Machine (M2M, or telematics) - cellular giants began to master even at the beginning of zero.

Connecting people to things and cars to cars (M2M) is a reality. We all know about home automation and smart device's s systems, but we must start to translate this technology into a business? The scope of M2M is very wide: security (warning systems, monitoring, alarms); monitoring vehicles, employees, devices, locating a child or a pet; energy efficiency; optimization of activity (development of routes, transmission and data used in the trade, and so on). Vodafone emphasized that about 50% of enterprises in the market already use such solutions and an increase in demand for them is expected. The highest rates of last year were demonstrated by security systems, car alarm systems, smart home, and alarm buttons. The company "Kyivstar" number of M2M cards on the market is estimated at about 3 million.

M2M is the ability to create a digital network of objects and systems that are not computers, phones or tablets. The technology allows both wireless and wired systems to communicate with each other. The global M2M market already generates 10 billion dollars in revenue worldwide and will grow rapidly in the coming years. How can a business take advantage of fast internet?

Mobile payments

Due to the constant connection to the network today's consumers are demanding it, than ever. M2M points of sale provide businesses with the ability to provide better customer service through flexible payment methods. Due to the growth of coverage and speed, it is no longer necessary to look for a socket or a network cable to connect a POS terminal for the calculation by cards. Thanks to this decision, I m mobile commerce becomes more accessible and fast.

For example, if you own a small shop selling sandwich products, the introduction of e M2M means that you will be able to sell more goods during the lunch break, because you will spend less time to process each transaction. Customers receive a secure payment method (for example, by credit or debit card), while businesses can offer customers flexible and convenient payment options. According to the NBU, in 2017 the number of trade enterprises with POS-terminals increased to 173.76 thousand, and the projected growth for the 2018th will be the smallest 20%. In fact, the price of the issue is not so big - only 300 UAH of rent per month and 2% of acquiring. In addition, the Ukrainian government proposed to make card terminals (POS-terminals) mandatory. In the Cabinet of Ministers they want the terminals to install all the outlets gradually, until 2022.

Asset control

Many businesses have difficulty managing their business assets and stocks, such as tools, equipment, and vehicles. Taking into account the negative consequences of theft, loss, damage and delay in delivery, and control is evident, I appeal asset M2M. Such a system will help to avoid financial losses, delays in production and an increase in insurance premiums, I. With the software on GPS-based enterprises can control online safety and about the productivity of its own assets and receive regular reports on their use and instant messages to keep track of lost or stolen in assets.

In addition, this topic has quite productively manifested itself in the agricultural sector, especially in connection with the use of precision farming. For example, almost all tractors and now fully automated. There, of course, sits a man, but he does not control the transport, but only controls it. Therefore we need a precise set of digital services and sensors, to a total of 50 destinations: opening, closing, the rotation of the crane, the supply of gasoline, speed ... This is all electronically controlled. And each sensor has its own card slot.

Nevertheless, in terms of growth in M2M connections and revenues, Ukraine lags behind Europe - even from such close countries as Hungary, Romania or the Czech Republic. However, in the five-year term, our country has a chance to catch up with its neighbors and by 2020 reach a level of 5 million M2M connections, which can be compared with forecasts in the markets of Eastern European countries.
